The Arizona House of Representatives has passed resolutions affirming Israel’s sovereignty in Judea and Samaria, rejecting the use of the term “West Bank.” The resolutions recognize what supporters describe as the historical, biblical, and legal legitimacy of Judea and Samaria. Lawmakers also formally reject the terminology introduced during Jordan’s occupation of the territory between 1948 and 1967. The measures advanced with bipartisan support after being approved by the House Appropriations Committee last week.
“Today, the Arizona House chose accuracy over politics,” Representative Livingston said. “Judea and Samaria are not invented terms and they are not negotiable facts. They are central to Jewish history, faith, and national identity, and Arizona will not participate in language meant to deny that truth.”
The resolutions further state that Judea and Samaria are important for Israel’s security as well as United States interests in preventing terrorist-controlled areas from forming in the region. Representative Livingston expressed appreciation to members of the House for supporting these measures and opposing attempts to alter historical or legal interpretations.
“This vote shows that respect for history still matters,” Representative Livingston said. “Arizona stands with Israel, speaks plainly about the facts, and refuses to bend to political pressure.”
Israeli Consul General Israel Bachar issued a statement applauding the action taken by the Arizona House.
HR 2002 was adopted upon passage by the House. HCR 2047 will now proceed to the Arizona Senate for consideration.
Carbone, a Republican who was elected in 2023 to represent Arizona’s 25th House District, replaced Michelle Udall in this role.
