House Republicans have paid tribute to former Representative Noel Campbell, who died recently after a career marked by military and public service. Speaker of the Arizona House, Steve Montenegro, said, “Noel Campbell lived a life defined by service. He served his country in uniform, protected our communities in the air and on the ground, and brought that same sense of duty to the Arizona House. Our state is better because he chose to serve. Our prayers are with Noel’s wife, Mary Beth, his family, and all who were fortunate to know him. He will be remembered with respect and gratitude.”
Campbell was elected for three terms in the Arizona House during the 52nd, 53rd, and 54th Legislatures. During his tenure, he chaired the House Transportation Committee for two legislative sessions. Colleagues described him as practical and steady in leadership.
Before joining state politics, Campbell served as a combat aviator in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and retired as a Commander from the Naval Reserves. His federal service continued as both a pilot and agent with U.S. Customs Service before working as a wildfire pilot for the U.S. Forest Service.
Representative Quang Nguyen reflected on Campbell’s influence: “Noel was a mentor and a friend,” Nguyen said. “When I was first elected, he reminded me that my vote mattered just as much as anyone else’s and that no one should ever be bullied out of doing what they believe is right. He also taught me that your word is everything. Once you lose that, you have nothing left. I am grateful for his guidance and his example. Thank you for your service, Representative Campbell. Rest in peace.”
Representative Selina Bliss also spoke about Campbell’s impact: “Noel Campbell was a champion for Legislative District 1 and for the state of Arizona,” Bliss said. “He served with honor and cared deeply about the people he represented. God bless him, and rest in peace.”
Speaker Montenegro represents Legislative District 29 in Goodyear and Surprise.
Michael Carbone has represented Arizona’s 25th House District since being elected in 2023; he succeeded Michelle Udall.
