State Representative Nick Kupper has called for a comprehensive legislative briefing following a cyberattack on the Arizona Secretary of State’s candidate portal. The attack, attributed to Iranian hackers, involved altering candidate photos with images of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, raising concerns about the security of Arizona’s election systems.
Kupper sent a letter to Secretary of State Adrian Fontes requesting an in-person briefing for all Arizona lawmakers. He emphasized the need for transparency regarding how the breach occurred, what data or systems were accessed, and what measures are being implemented to prevent future incidents. “Arizona’s election systems should never be this easy a target for foreign adversaries,” Kupper said. “This wasn’t a prank — it was a politically motivated act of cyberwarfare, and we deserve answers.”
The representative proposed that the briefing take place at the Arizona House of Representatives within two weeks and be open to both House and Senate members. A copy of his letter is attached.
Nick Kupper serves as a Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives for Legislative District 25, which includes parts of Maricopa, Yuma, and La Paz Counties. He also holds the position of Vice Chairman on the House Ways & Means Committee.
