Rep. Paul Gosar, DDS, a Republican congressman who secured reelection in 2024 by defeating Quacy Smith with 65.3% of the vote, has posted a series of statements on his official social media account criticizing Democratic lawmakers over a recent government shutdown.

On October 11, 2025, Gosar commented on another post, stating, “She’s not wrong.”

Later that day, he directly addressed Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Arizona’s Democratic Senators Ruben Gallego and Mark Kelly. In his post, Gosar wrote, “Schumer & AZ Democrat Senators Gallego and Kelly have carelessly shut the government down & have made it clear they view pay for troops & a functioning federal government as leverage to fight for their woke pet political issues, including taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegals.” The statement accuses these lawmakers of prioritizing partisan objectives over government operations and military pay.

On October 14, 2025, Gosar expanded his criticism of Democrats. He stated, “It’s shameful that Democrats are willing to allow our troops, military families and federal law enforcement to go without pay so that they can appease their far-left Marxist base and Soros-backed activist groups.”

Gosar’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions surrounding government funding negotiations. In previous election cycles, Gosar has demonstrated strong electoral performance; he won his 2022 general election against Richard Grayson with 97.8% of the vote.

The accusations from Gosar reflect ongoing partisan disputes over government shutdowns and funding priorities, particularly regarding defense spending and immigration policy.
