FRANKLIN PIERCE UNIVERSITY: Arizona DPT students provide compassionate care in Ecuador

Support2

Franklin Pierce University issued the following announcement on Dec. 16

Fourteen Doctor of Physical Therapy students from Goodyear, Arizona traveled to Cuenca, Ecuador as part of an international team addressing acute care needs of the local population and the growing number of Venezuelan refugees settled there. Cuenca is located in the highlands of southern Ecuador, surrounded by mountains on all sides. Over the eight-day trip, students divided their time between working in a hospital setting in the city, and seeing patients in the villages and mountains. They evaluated patients, visited families and children in homes and local schools, assisted in surgery, delivered supplies and taught caregivers strategies for helping their loved ones gain strength and mobility

Assistant Professor Sheri Donaldson, who supervised the group, said students found the trip “life-changing,” and are still sharing and processing their experiences. Watch for more in the Spring 2020 Pierce magazine!
