A Phoenix-based company is using 3D technology to make masks, face shields and swabs during COVID-19.

Masks that are in short supply, especially for health care workers, as the pandemic continues to wreak havoc across Arizona.

Phoenix Analysis and Design Technologies Inc. (PADT Inc.) is known for its 3D printing and scanning services. While the majority of their staff is staying home during COVID-19, a subset of their team is still using their 3D printing technology at the Phoenix-based plant.

Eric Miller, co-owner and principal at PADT Inc., has had to battle logistics, human resources, community involvement and new lessons during COVID-19.

“We’re lucky,” Miller said. “That’s the other emotion that we discuss a lot is how lucky we are. We’re looking at a bad year, not losing everything.”

Other businesses are stepping in to help out using 3D technology and laser cutters to make masks and face shields for their communities. Such businesses include Walter LLC and Banner Innovation Group.
