Thanks to a new Amazon robotics center, Amazon is now Goodyear’s largest employer, the city’s website reported.

The latest facility marks Amazon’s fourth spot in Goodyear and the pioneer robotics center in the valley region. It will also be Amazon’s sophomore robotics center in Arizona, but it marks the sole robotics facility in metro Phoenix. With the new center, 1,000 full-time workers are slated to collaborate with Amazon Robotics to select, pack and ship small objects from books and kitchenware to toys.

“Amazon’s confidence just shows we’re doing it right in Goodyear. Even during the pandemic, Goodyear continues to welcome business after business. We just can’t get enough Amazon in Goodyear,” Mayor Georgia Lord said, according to the City of Goodyear.

The center will sit on 855,000 square feet and is slated to be four stories high, which is also the largest building to ever be constructed in Goodyear. It will also span across more than 2.3 million square feet, which covers roughly 40 football fields.
