Cochise County issued the following announcement on Aug. 2.
Commemorating Cochise County Courthouse 90th Anniversary; Legal and Court Memorabilia Collection Now Available for Online Viewing
On August 2, 1931, the people of Cochise County dedicated its beautiful, then state-of-the-art, Southwest Deco courthouse in Bisbee, in grand ceremonial style with then Governor George W. P. Hunt officiating.
Seventy-five years later, in 2006, another celebration occurred when the public gathered to honor the Diamond Jubilee of the building and the people who made justice happen. A booklet and video were produced and are now archived at the Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records.
Now, in time for the 90th anniversary of its dedication, the booklet and videos are available in the Cochise County Clerk of the Superior Court's digital collection. Legal and Court History of Cochise County is available through the State Library's online repository, The Arizona Memory Project.
“Many of the local legal personalities honored that day have now passed, which makes this a bittersweet announcement,” says former Cochise County Clerk of the Superior Court, Denise Lundin Newton. “However, this visual collection ensures they are not forgotten, and are cherished for the many contributions they made to our county, the state, and nation.”
A special recognition is dedicated to former Cochise County Clerk of the Superior Court, Denise Lundin Newton, for her work on this project.
