Electric Scooter Rules for a Safe Ride

Electric scooters became a travel option in Goodyear almost a year ago. Instead of hopping in your car to visit the recreation campus, a local restaurant or a friend across town, you can now hop on a Bird. Bird is an electric scooter that can be rented out by the minute by anyone 18-years and older with a valid license or permit.

To ensure everyone has a safe ride, there are rules to follow when riding and parking an e-scooter. Riders are encouraged to wear a helmet and must follow all standard rules of the road. Reckless riding is a Class 2 misdemeanor. The e-scooters must be parked out of the way of pedestrians and never block driveways, loading zones, crosswalks or emergency exits. The city has established several codes specifically to provide guidelines for riders.

Riders are able to unlock an e-scooter at Bird Nest locations across the city using the Bird Rides app. Bird Nests are set up at various locations in Goodyear. The locations may be adjusted to accommodate the demand. The most updated map of locations is available on the Bird Rides app.
