Arizona’s largest county is implementing three critical tactics to address the resurgence of COVID-19 in the state, according to a press release from Maricopa County.
Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) said it was focusing on case investigation and contact tracing, social distancing and masks in response to the more than 1,800 new coronavirus cases reported each day.
Case investigation involves speaking with those who test positive. Contract tracing is the process of reaching out to those who were in close contact with a person who contracted the virus.
Social distancing is apportioning six feet of space to slow the spread, and masks are intended to protect others’ from the wearers’ respiratory droplets.
Dr. Rebecca Sunenshine, medical director for disease control at MCDPH, said residents must understand that every adult has an equal chance of catching the virus and spreading it to others, especially those individuals who belong to high-risk groups.
