Wishing for a Trader Joe’s on its 55th Birthday

Goodyear, AZ is the ninth fastest growing city in the nation, 94% of residents say it’s a great place to live and there are 47 miles of beautiful trails and 100+ miles of paved bike routes. But something is still missing…

Time and time again, residents have voiced that the missing piece is Trader Joe’s! (yes, Trader Joe’s) In fact, in 2017, 2019 and then again in 2021, Goodyear residents ranked Trader Joe’s as the #1 most wanted grocery store in the city’s retail survey.

So, we couldn’t pass up Trader Joe’s 55th birthday without sending them wishes from Goodyear residents and reminding them of how much they are wanted in the second fastest growing city in Arizona.

On Thursday, Aug. 25 from noon to 4 p.m., tune into @goodyearazgov on Facebook to join a LIVE We Want Trader Joe’s in Goodyear birthday party. There will be special guests, including Mayor Joe Pizzillo and discussion on what it takes to get a business, like Trader Joe’s, to open in Goodyear. Residents will also be invited to leave a birthday message and share what they love about Trader Joe’s on social media.

You may recall, in 2019, hundreds of Goodyear residents gathered on a chilly December morning to share their love for the company on We Want Trader Joe’s Day.  As the mayor issued a proclamation for the day, residents held signs and signed a petition on the city’s T.O.M. (topics on the move) van, asking for Trader Joe’s to open in Goodyear. The city even produced a humorous music video showing the lengths residents would go to get knockoff Trader Joe’s products in absence of the actual store.
