Petersen serves on local control panel

Meeting

State Rep. Warren Petersen (R-Gilbert) served on a panel earlier this month that discussed local control.

Attorney Christina Sandefur tweeted about the panel, stating she enjoyed her time hosting the panel with Petersen and Phoenix Councilman Sal DiCiccio. The panel examined how local control is out-of-control and how state lawmakers should be stepping up to protect their constituents' rights.

Sandefur earlier spoke about the topic in November as well with Caleb Brown at the Cato Daily Podcast.

"Few people pay much attention to local regulation but it’s where some of the most substantial infringements on liberty occur," Sandefur wrote on her blog. "Local governments exist to deliver services that would otherwise be inefficient for the state government to provide, such as local budgets, police departments and water and sewer services."

Sandefur said cities are micromanaging every aspect of their citizens’ lives, which intrudes on liberty.
