CITY OF GOODYEAR: Cafe Rio Brings Convenience, Fresh Food to Goodyear

Cafe

City of Goodyear issued the following announcement on Dec. 23

Folks who live or shop in the Palm Valley area will get new dining options Jan. 8 when Cafe Rio Mexican Grill opens in the former Carl’s Jr./Green Burrito location at 13837 W. McDowell Road, between Target and the FirstBank at the corner of North Litchfield Road.

Unlike most Cafe Rios, this one will have a drive-through! Diners can enjoy the restaurant’s authentic, signature dishes inspired by the recipes and traditional cooking of the Rio Grande region by either going inside for a sit down meal or pick up an order while on the go.

“Amid all the stores around there, we will give shoppers another option for a casual lunch,” says  Brittany Squiers, a spokeswoman for the chain. “The drive-through could be a differentiator, making the dining experience faster so they can get on to their next destination.”

That dining experience follows Cafe Rio’s mantra of “fresh made food, every day.” – the very core of the brand. No freezers. No microwaves. Nothing premade. The staff begins each day bright and early, hand-squeezing limes, hand-scooping avocados, simmering sauces and preparing desserts.

Cafe Rio already has a presence in the Southwest Valley. Residents from Goodyear may have experienced the cuisine at a neighboring west valley location. “We know the area and consider it an emerging market for us,” Squiers says. “The kind of clientele we can attract [at Palm Valley Pavilion] are the folks we want.” She says Cafe Rio will employ approximately 45 people in the new restaurant.

Steve and Patricia Stanley started Cafe Rio in St. George, Utah, in 1997. They grew the company to six locations by 2004, when Bob Nilsen purchased the small chain with the idea of expanding beyond southern Utah. Today Cafe Rio has more than 125 locations.

The chain has won more than 100 awards, from the Best of City Search and the Oxnard Salsa Festival to the Inc. 500 and the Alfred P. Sloan Award.
