City of Avondale issued the following announcement on Jan. 22

Avondale’s Community Relations & Public Affairs Department has a new name! As part of a restructuring within the city organization, the department will now be known as Marketing and Public Relations.

Avondale City Manager Charles Montoya said that the department’s new name reflects the emphasis that Avondale has placed on economic development, employment and tourism initiatives. “Avondale is poised for tremendous growth and development in the months ahead. Most of the marketing and branding strategies are developed in house by our own team of marketing and public relations professionals. Therefore, the name change better reflects the role that this department plays, working closely in partnership with our Economic Development Department and Development and Engineering Services Department to attract new development, employment, retail and industry into the city of Avondale.”

“This year will be filled with groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings and grand-openings for new hotels, restaurants, commerce parks and city facilities throughout the city. Alamar by Brookfield Residential, a massive, new residential development in Avondale’s southern portion, will welcome new residents later this year.  The BLVD, a 330-acre site along Avondale Boulevard, is primed for vibrant mixed-use development. 2020 will also be the year of the Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway, which is a huge economic and tourism driver for the entire state. With so much happening in Avondale, it’s extremely gratifying and very exciting to be at the helm working to share all that’s positive in the city,”  said Pier Simeri, Marketing and Public Relations Director.

Simeri will continue to lead her team in their various roles, including internal/external communications, marketing and media relations, graphic design, digital/social media, special event planning, as well as oversight of the city’s public art program. Her team has received numerous awards and recognitions over the years, including several awards from the City/County Communications & Marketing Association’s (3CMA) Savvy competitions, which recognizes excellence in government marketing and communications programs.
