The Maricopa County Planning and Development Department is offering "virtual inspections" for some home renovation project inspections.
Virtual inspections are now being allowed for electrical service/replacement, main breaker or minor electrical repair permits, according to a Maricopa County press release. Virtual inspections are also being allowed for minor gas line replacement, plumbing repairs as well as for gas/electrical clearances and sewer/septic lines.
“We want responsible development to continue in spite of the pandemic, whether it’s a new housing community or a small home improvement project,” Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman from District 4 Clint Hickman said in a statement.
Maricopa County has seen a year-over-year increase in building permits, even throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the county's release.
Maricopa County Inspection Manager Justin Pascarela said the virtual inspections are similar to video conferencing.
"Customers will get a set meeting time, they’ll connect with the inspector using their smart phone or tablet, and then they’ll be walked through the inspections process right there," Pascarella stated in the release.
